12MP resolution: why the extra detail matters

At 4608 × 2592 pixels, the camera captures roughly three times the detail of a standard 4MP camera. In practice that means you can zoom into recorded footage and still make out a face at a gate or a number plate on a driveway.

The fixed 2.8mm lens gives a wide view, so one camera can cover a whole car park entrance, shop floor or rear yard. The high resolution is what stops that wide view becoming a blur when you zoom in later.

AcuSense: fewer false alarms, faster searches

AcuSense uses deep learning built into the camera to tell people and vehicles apart from everything else. Motion alerts only fire when a human or vehicle is detected, so you are not woken by cats, swaying trees, heavy rain or headlights sweeping across a wall.

DarkFighter and 40m Smart IR: clear images after dark

DarkFighter is Hikvision's low-light imaging technology. It keeps images bright and usable in near-dark conditions, such as a dimly lit side alley or a car park with a single street lamp. When light drops further, Smart IR takes over with up to 40 metres of infrared night vision, and adjusts its strength so close subjects are not washed out.

The integrated dual-array microphone records audio alongside video. That extra context helps when reviewing incidents at a reception desk, till point or entrance, where what was said can matter as much as what happened.

A note for UK users: audio recording is more intrusive than video under UK GDPR. Only enable it where you have a clear reason, and tell people with signage that audio is being recorded.

The turret housing is IP67 rated, so it is fully protected against dust and can withstand heavy rain and temporary immersion. It is also NEMA 4X anti-corrosion rated, which makes it a sound choice for coastal properties, farms and industrial units where salt air or chemicals shorten the life of cheaper cameras.

130 dB True WDR balances bright and dark areas in the same shot. That is useful for doorways and shopfronts, where a bright street behind a subject would otherwise turn them into a silhouette.

Installation: one cable for power, video and audio

For a reliable run, use external-grade CAT6 solid copper cable and mount the camera on a junction box to keep connections dry.
